Phase I treatment is an orthopedic phase of treatment. Genetic and environmental factors have played a part in the development of your child’s teeth, jaws and muscles. For example, your child may have Mom’s small jaw and Dad’s large teeth creating a significant crowding concern.

Why is early
treatment (Phase I) necessary?

Or, your child may have a favorite blanket that goes with a favorite thumb. Crowding, thumb-sucking or unusual sleep patterns can affect the growth and development of your child’s teeth and jaws. By treating these concerns during your child’s rapid growth period, we can influence the development of the jaw to give your child a better bite.

A Phase I treatment can accomplish goals that are difficult to achieve at an older age. Phase I treatment is estimated at 12 months. Once Phase I treatment is complete, it is important for Dr. Jeff to continue to monitor your child’s growth and development.

Dr. Jeff will recommend a growth and development check every six months until most of the permanent teeth are present. Once your child has most of their permanent teeth, Dr. Jeff will evaluate for Phase II treatment.
